John Smith carries the rank of Obergruppenführer, A Senior group leader, proper for his SS status. However he refers to some of his subordinates as "Captain" or "Major." These ranks did not exist in the SS, a Captain would be Hauptsturmführer, a Major would be Sturmbannführer. See more
